The Sensations due to the Separation Wall in Palestine
… The idea of this mixtapes is to show the feelings that Palestinian citizens feel, after the construction of the separation barrier in the occupied territories of the West Bank by the Israeli occupation, and the feelings may be manifested by the sadness and isolation from the homeland, lands and family. Its goal is the optimism; because people live in sorrow and injustice by the occupation, and this is embodied in the separation wall as one example of many violations. However, there is a kind of steadfastness, and positive thinking for the future that will lead us to our liberty and the freedom of Palestine.
Firstly, in the first track of “Borders”, M.I.A, is a rapper from Britain and through her song she considered a comprehensive description of the world with a huge Focus on the case of the political or physical limits and borders that imposed on the ground to restrict human movement and prevent them from their rights. So, I chose this song to start of the mixtapes because the singer explains the boundaries in general and gives a clear and basic picture of the borders.
Secondly, in the second track of “All walls will fall: Apartheid Separation Wall in Palestine” by David Rovics, David Rovics is an American singer through his song, he expresses the establishment of the wall inside the West Bank, affecting a long chain that takes human rights from Palestinians who is living on and around the wall, and I chose this song to be the second track because it focused about the separation wall in the occupied territories specifically.
Thirdly, in the third track of “Ya Hlellhom” by Seyar Abdeen, Seyar Abdeen is a Sudanese singer who presents Sudanese art in the field of music, and through this song, the singer meant about the people who were far away, such as the families who left the country, due to the revolution and wars that occurred in Sudan, and the separated between people in North of Sudan and South of Sudan. And I chose this song in the third track because it links Sudan’s facts with the Palestinian reality, so this song expresses feelings of sadness and longing for the families, due to the distances that politics ruled over, as the wall worked to separate the Palestinian families who live inside and outside the wall
Fourthly, in the fourth track of “Ellon Hal Asmar Ellon” by Lena Chamamya, Lena Chamamya is a Syrian singer who presents authentic Arab and Syrian art, also she sings about the issues that related to the Arab world, including the Palestinian issue. In this song I chose it to be the fourth track, because it expresses the feelings of the steadfastness and adherence that taken a place everywhere in Palestine, as well as the legitimate right to return to the land and live in dignity and freedom, even if there is a separation wall and borders, the feelings of steadfastness will remain constantly, and it will increase in order to gain the freedom that the Palestinian citizen dreams of.
Fifthly and lastly, in the fifth track of the poem of “My eyes with the wall” by Yousef, Abuhilal. In this poem, I expressed my personal experience that live it, and I was terrified by it. When the separation wall was built in my town of Abu Dis in East Jerusalem, I was seven years old. I saw and lived through all the stages of this tragedy, since this issue is a really sensitive problem to me, because I see the separation wall every day in my life and every morning, I chose it to be the conclusion of the mixtapes because it expresses myself and my personal suffering in facing this wall, I lived the feelings of sadness and alienation from the other side, but I believe that one day this nightmare will be removed from the Palestinian reality, and we will live our lives in dignity and freedom.
